Choosing a Dog Bed
How do you choose the best dog bed for your pet? Analyze your pet's sleeping habits. Does your pet prefer your favorite armchair, the spot behind the couch, or the foot of your bed? If your pet prefers to cuddle or curl up when he sleeps, you might consider selecting a round or oval-shaped bed with thick, foam walls. If your pet likes to hide, he or she may prefer a thick foam bed shaped like a teepee with a thick fabric lining. And if your pet likes to spread out, look at the wide variety of cedar beds available. The traditional cedar bed is constructed of durable plain-denim fabric with a refillable inner bag. But other types include six-inch thick, round or square cedar beds ranging in size up to fifty-four inches. They're offered in a variety of fabrics: nylon, denim, cotton or plush sheepskin.

Check to see what your cedar bed is filled with. The best have 100% cedar filling. Others have a cedar/poly blend or a styrene bead blend which can be noisy and doesn't fluff back up after your pet lays on it. Also, an inner bag is a convenience that lets you refill the bed according to your pet's preference.
Finally, check for quality. Make sure the bed is well-constructed with strong seams. If it's made from sheepskin, make sure it's a thick, plush fabric that won't shed. Look to see if the bed is washable and if it can be disassembled for cleaning.
